Have you ever felt that no matter how much you rest, your body remains in a state of high alert? You wake up, and even before your first cup of coffee, your shoulders are already up by your ears or there’s a pressure in your chest you can’t quite explain.

We often say: "It’s just the stress of the week." But the reality goes deeper: your body has a memory, and it stores what your mind cannot always process.

Before your mind even understands that you are under pressure, your body has already made a decision: to protect you. And to do so, it creates a physical "armor." If you pause for a second right now, do you recognize any of these signs?

Clenched Jaw (Bruxism): That constant tension, especially at night, that seems to say: "I have to hold on; I can't let go of what I feel."

Stiff Shoulders and Neck: As if you were carrying an invisible weight that doesn't belong to you, yet you feel the obligation to bear it.

Lump in your Throat or Stomach: Emotions that got stuck halfway because it "wasn't the right time" to express them.

Shallow Breathing: A surface-level breath that keeps you ready to fight or flee, even while sitting at your computer.

If you said "That’s me" to more than one of these, you are not broken. You are simply inhabiting a protection structure that has become chronic.

It’s not a mistake; it’s your story on your skin

What we call "muscle tension" is, in reality, trapped survival energy.

When we live through highly demanding situations—migration, family breakdowns, or the cultural pressure to "handle it all"—our nervous system activates a defense response. If that response is not completed (if we couldn't cry, scream, or set a boundary in that moment), the body stores that tension to "use it later."

Over the years, this tension becomes your "way of being." You get used to living tight, thinking that’s just who you are, when in reality, it’s your protection strategy operating from the shadows.

Why is "understanding it" not enough?

This is where Somatic Unlocking makes the difference. You can go to therapy for years and perfectly understand why you are stressed, but if your jaw remains clenched, your nervous system keeps sending your brain the message: "We are in danger."

To change the mind, we must first provide safety to the body.

Your body is not betraying you with that pain or stiffness; it is protecting you from something it still perceives as a threat. Learning to read these signals is the first step toward stopping the "holding on" and starting to choose. The body doesn't lie, and when we give it the space to shed that armor, mental clarity arrives on its own.

Do you want to learn how your body is truly protecting you?
